| January 20-21 "SPY-KIDS" It was another great showing by the Doom Trooper squad, once again setting the example of how a game should be officiated. We decided to ref the first event of the year at beautiful Low Country Paintball in Ludowici Ga. home field and sponsor of the Doom Troopers. We once again utilized outstanding radio communications in order to have the entire field covered. This was a game based on the movie "Spy Kids" and as you can guess there were many kids in attendance. We made it our personal goal to keep everyone safe throughout the course of the game and received two most valuable ref awards (My-T-Mouse and Boomhower) for our efforts. A plan was put into place before hand to work off of a zoning system with floaters and it seemed to work flawlessly. By radio, we always made sure that a mission ref would not TRAVEL with a mission squad which calls unnecessary attention to them, but would instead be at the objective hidden and awaiting the mission squad. This made several people pretty impressed with our efforts. We seem to be innovators in reffing events with fresh new ideas that cater to the hard core scenario player and yet doesn't blow their efforts of stealth. JANUARY 27TH "C.F.P. TOURNEY" In our first attempt at a C.F.P. tournament, we came away very pleased on many different levels. First off, this was the BEST ran tournament we have ever had the experience of participating in. Well organized with fair and impartial judges. They cleaned the bunkers and re-inflated the ones that needed it between every match, and yet still did a great job of remaining on schedule. Hats off to C.F.P. and their staff!!! We also had a respectable showing in the tournament going into the semi-finals as the 5th overall seed. We managed to let a couple of games slip through our fingers but couldn't help but feel like winners after such a fun tourney. The event was hi-lighted by a couple of max points, a nail biting one on one, and a last minute fill in by Andy when Keiths marker went down. Andy performed flawlessly and really gained some respect from the tenured troopers. To cap it all off we were complimented by some heavy hitters in the sport such as "Whitey" and Dale Ford in his "Ford Report" commented that it was some of the best communication he had ever witnessed on a paintball field. FEBRUARY 17-18 "BLANDING" M.O.U.T. SITE A game that has a reputation all it's own and is known for defining people. We were fortunate to be able to play along side some teams that we are typically pitted against because of the number of players in attendance (1200+). Rich Toth of the Black Berets lead our side against Davi of Dead By Dawn. Doom Trooper Melissa (Spankin') Hall served as the Radio Operator of the game often finding herself in a role of leading a 600+ side and co-ordinating the efforts the whole way with Rich (Our General) and Billy of Low Country Paintball (X.O. for our side). She did a stellar job and people noticed! Efforts were given by other members of the team as well with the appearance of an "old school" trooper, Travis Collins. The Doom Troopers proceeded to make impacts on the field and the game in various ways. At one point a Doom Trooper was responsible for destroying what was deemed an "indestructible" dragon. Indestructible yes... unbeatable.... NO. It was said by the person playing the "Dragon" that there was only so much punishment a human body can take. As a result, some of the most valuable props were recovered by a trooper (My-T-Mouse). In the end, Doom Troopers; Jason (My-T-Mouse) Hall, and his wife Melissa (Spankin') Hall, shared M.V.P. honors for this landmark event of 1200+ players. FEBRUARY 24TH CFP Tournament This outing at C.F.P. wasn't quite as successful as the last. Not that the event wasn't a good one.... but the Troopers didn't perform to their usual potential. We finished 3-3 and narrowly missed the quarter finals in an effort that included some bone-head mistakes like; shooting ones self out, failure to cross up, being hit by blind shots, missing assignments, calling ourselves out with no breaks, etc. The responsibility is evenly shared among all of the team and it was a learning experience. Those who know our road to get to where we are at, also know that learning experiences are exactly what we are derived from. With that being said... it's just another training session on the road to our inevitable success. We look forward to rebounding strong on the next event. MARCH 3-4 "Harry Pottier" Well it felt like the Troopers of old at this exciting game based on the Harry Potter books. Both seasoned Troopers and new Troopers alike joined forces in an effort to absolutely abuse opponents in sections of the field that needed clearing. We ran with a team of 11 and devoured all who opposed us. I assure you that there are folks still in therapy and some who are reliving the nightmare of the acid green bones closing in on them. Let it be known that we are not only back to our usual antics, but we are also having fun again doing it! In attendance for this event were Jason, Chris, Fatboy, Boomhower, Keith, Money, Jen, Brent, Brandon, Ga. Joe, and probie Matt Perkins. Moneys wife Michelle was also in attendance. Probie Matt Perkins (Perk) was initiated to the team at the end of the event and is now a member of the Trooper team. Awards were given to; Jason (My-T-Mouse) Hall for sportsmanship, and to the TEAM for "Most Formidable Opponent". BOTH awards were given by the OPPOSING GENERAL Craig Grendle!!! All in all the game was a template for the impact we expect to make on the 2007 season and all in attendance were very excited about the remainder of the year. March 10th I.R.P. Tournament The March 10th Indian River Paintball tournament was cancelled due to lack of response. It would seem that maybe some of the other teams got wind of our plan to attend the event and thought better of wasting their money in a futile attempt at beating us <evil grin>. Needless to say there is nothing to report here on this event but, we are gearing up for the Holy Grail Game at Old River Paintball which looks to be a great turnout for the Troopers. We hope to see you there!! March 24-25 Old River "Holy Grail" The fifth installment of "Holy Grail" produced by NOCER Productions yielded one of the largest turnouts from the Doom Troopers as of late. Both scenario and tournament Troopers converged on the local field to wreak our havoc on the opposition. The English side was generalled by our very own "Georgia" Joe Hamilton. For this reason we were not eligible to receive awards so we decided to dish out the ass whoopings instead. A good time was had by all and we were graced with some faces we hadn't seen in a while. Game coverage can be found at 68caliber.com. "Georgia" Joe is hard core Check out Georgia's new tattoo. This tattoo is on his left forearm. Eryana has gone home.... Our sponsored angel, Eryana Jones has gone home. She passed early Tuesday morning April 24th 2007. We managed to raise $2763.00 for her family over the weekend at the "G.I.Joe" event at G.T.F. Paintball in Yulee, Florida but, by no means is her mother out of the woods yet. If you would like to donate to her and help with the expenses that come with losing a child, please visit www.eryanajones.com and click on "donations". Thank you to all who assisted in making this fund raiser a success! Eryana Nicole Jones 7/8/2000 - 4/24/2007 |
